Our physical therapists work one-on-one with patients in our well-equipped Rehab Gym. Each patient is given specialized therapy and instruction, which enables them to reach their highest level of independent mobility and learn how to prevent injury. Individualized treatments are designed to engage and assist patients using a wide variety of techniques, such as hydrotherapy, heat and cold, electrical stimulation, massage joint mobilization, and exercise. Training is also available for use of crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs, and prostheses.
A major aspect of post-acute care is preparing patients to return home, and
helping them achieve their highest level of independence with activities of daily living. Our occupational therapy specialists engage patients in a variety of therapeutic tasks like dressing, grooming, bathing, and eating. Adaptive equipment may be used to enhance or modify performance in personal care, home management, meal preparation, and work or leisure activities.
Speech and Language Pathology
Our experienced speech and language therapists asses many aspects of patient ability, including language, swallowing, and cognitive disorders. Therapy is tailored to each patients’ individual needs, and is designed to improve their quality of life through by increasing language fluency, memory and cognitive function, and swallowing.
The focus of our recreational therapists is to provide therapy and services based on the individual needs and interests of each patient, and equip them with the skills necessary to live active, satisfying lives. Through the use of a wide range of activities and techniques, patients learn to apply these functional improvements to their chosen pursuits during their stay at The Oaks at Lakewood. These skills and abilities allow patients to engage in favorite hobbies, activities, or pastimes upon returning to their daily lives.
